Today, I want to share something useful with you. My brother taught me how to do the Breath of Fire, which is a technique in Kundalini yoga. I’m a big fan of incorporating tools across many disciplines, and Kundalini is no exception. As a sufferer of extreme anxiety, I have tried countless different techniques over the years, most to no avail. This technique, however, works immediately. If you suffer from anxiety and often feel like there’s no way out, this is for you.
Breath of Fire
3 Rounds, 1-3 minutes each.
This is all nasal breathing - your mouth should be closed the entire time.
You will inhale and exhale quickly (think 2 or 3 breaths per second), focusing on the exhale.
Relax the muscles in the face, shoulders, and anywhere you keep tension.
When done correctly, it should sound be audible and sound something like a dog panting or lapping.
After I do the Breath of Fire, I can actually feel my parasympathetic nervous system calming down. Add 10-20 minutes of silent mediation and heavy breathing afterward, and I can promise you a significant respite from your anxiety woes. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
