I know I have to make changes with this newsletter. The output expectations I’ve created around it are overwhelming, and I’ve started to see that it has a direct effect on the quality of my writing. Reflections get shorter, I cut corners, and it becomes an exercise of “getting” it done rather than something I’m passionate about on a daily basis. That, to me, means it’s time for a change.
Change doesn’t come easily for me. I’m a creature of routine and repetition. I enjoy the safety of the little worlds that I build, but growth does not come with comfort. I often find myself pushing off change until I absolutely have to, stalling and delaying until I essentially have no other choice. This sometimes has merit, but more often than not it’s based out of fear, specifically fear of change. With change comes doubt and the unknown, and these aren’t always easy to wrestle with.
I don’t yet know exactly what I’m going to do. I could make this newsletter weekly (similar to The Bronzeman) and commit to longer pieces. Alternatively, I could commit to short-form pieces that read similar to conventional daily readers. I’m sure I’ll find a mix between the two. The purpose of writing about it here is to declare to you and to the universe that I recognize the need to change, and set my intention to move in that direction. Now, change is more than just a thought, it’s a responsibility.
Are there any areas in your life in which you see the need for change? Are you putting change off due to fear of the unknown? If your answer is “yes” to either of these, maybe it’s time to turn up the heat and go for it. The worst thing we can do is stay stagnant. Even if we fail, it’s better than if we didn’t move at all.
