Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
- Matthew 18:3
Maybe you were young, and mom or dad had strayed
Maybe someone touched you in those horrifying ways
Maybe you were older, maybe someone died
Maybe someone cheated and the scene stayed in your mind
Maybe you were beaten, maybe you were maimed
Maybe all the girls and boys at school would call you plain
Maybe you were different, maybe you were shy
Maybe no one ever even cared or took the time
Maybe you found bottles, maybe you found pills
Maybe it was fluid inside veins that gave you thrills
Maybe it was bodies, maybe sick taboos
Maybe it was all those things you said you’d never do
Maybe it it was houses, maybe it was fame
Maybe it was just to hear somebody call your name
Maybe it was chapels, maybe it was fear
Maybe it was what you thought they’d always want to hear
The hearts of youth are brave and pure
When, my friend, did you lose yours?
