Everything Is Wrong (And Why That’s Right)
A little book about big lies.
Chapter 7: C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)
Society is made of systems. Systems give us clean water to drink, roads to drive on and sewage disposal. Though technology, they also give us the ability to communicate and pretty much everything else that makes up our modern world. Without systems, we’d still be beating each other over the head with rocks.
The backbone of all these systems is one mega-system - money. Before money, commerce was done through bartering systems, which had their own pros and cons. Then, about 5,000 years ago, the Mesopotamians introduced the shekel, and within a few thousand years currency became king. Can you imagine our world without money? I’m drawing blanks…
Before I continue, I want to make some things very clear. I’m not a Socialist, nor am I a staunch Conservative. Truth is, at this point I don’t know what I am. I’ve spent time on both sides of the political spectrum, and now I consider myself something of a political Frankenstein (if I ever run for president, it will be under the Frankenstein Party for sure). I want to keep politics out of this as much as possible and just focus on the big picture, although I know money and politics go hand-in-hand. I’ll do my best.
