Welcome to The Bronzeman.
Every Sunday from this point forward, I will be putting together a new type of newsletter - one focused primarily on strength, health and fitness. This is one of my most feverish passions, and I certainly have enough to say about each of these topics. I’m excited to share my thoughts and knowledge with you all.
As many of you know, my style of training is Old Time Strongman (also known as Oddlifting), and my Instagram account (@modern.bronze) will show you exactly what that is. I am going to use this platform to share my explorations into the past, to highlight the Old Time Strongmen and Strongwomen, and to show you how I apply principles to my health and fitness life that have been around for decades. In our modern world, there’s so much of the same thing - men juiced on steroids doing bench press tutorials, and women on the hunt for the perfect ass providing the “perfect” squat splits. I’m not here to shit on anyone else’s journey - if you’re dedicated to bettering yourself, I support you in whatever way to decide to go; however, I am here to offer an alternative path.
For any women reading this, I’m sure you’re thinking “this sounds like a man’s game”…look at the photo below and tell me that’s true. Strongwomen have always been a huge part of the culture of strength:
Some of you may be thinking, “I just want to get in shape, I don’t need to get super bulky”…look at the photo below and tell me this Old Time Strongman doesn’t have the dream physique:
Some of you may be looking to get as strong as fuck - look no further. The man below (Arthur Saxon) was perhaps the strongest man that ever lived. We’ll talk about him plenty in weeks to come…
These are just some visual examples of my influences, but The Bronzeman is not going to be a history lesson. The message I want to get across is how I’ve integrated these old styles of training into my own life, and how I apply them in the modern world. I want to share with you my findings around optimum diet and nutrition, the ancient practice of fasting and a host of other topics that can help you create immediate change in your life.
Most importantly, I want to share the philosophy I have created that incorporates all of these elements. Underneath the crazy musculature and insane feats of strength, there’s a way of living that one may not see from the outside. We’ll dive into all the ways that this intersects with the various philosophies and life strategies I have encountered in my life, and the conclusions I’ve come to. The best part is, it’s a never ending journey, so there will be plenty to uncover and explore.
At the end of the day, I want to help you get strong. Why, you ask? Because I have seen the fruits of the process of strengthening the body, strengthening the mind and strengthening the spirit. I believe we all have the desire to grow, and with growth comes strength. You can’t have one without the other. In our modern world, it gets difficult to figure out which way to go, and my answer is to simplify everything - cut the fat, remove the fads, and look towards the past for the answers that have been with us for ages.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you…The Bronzeman!
P.S. I have been experimenting with various platforms and structures for this newsletter, and I’ve still yet to settle on the format I want so bear with me. The Bronzeman will be for paid subscribers moving forward, and I would like to have it be separate from Daily Reflections. I will provide updates on the final format later this week. For now, feel free to subscribe here:
